Alice Clayton is a well established Dene First Nations professional artist and designer. With over 20 years of experience her work is recognized for her use of bright colours and unique designs in beadwork. Her moccasins are of original design taught to her by her mother and elder sister.
Alice is originally from the village of Dettah, near Yellowknife, NWT. She grew up in a traditional Dene home, where she learned from her mother and older sister to make clothing out of fur, hide and beads. Furthermore, her mother came from a large and outstanding family in Rae-Edzo.
Alice has a deep respect for the traditions and knowledge of her people. Her beadwork expresses the beauty of colour and design of distinctive floral beaded items using patterns from nature to express balance and harmony.
Alice teachers her art with passion and sensitivity to each individual's unique needs, which brings out the individual's one-of-a-kind talent!
