COVID-19 Precautions

If you would like to see the installations currently on view please wear a mask and consider flight times when visiting the airport. The weekly flight schedule is available here and you can also view the flight radar live updates here. Please keep in mind that passengers are required to be at the airport at least an hour prior to departure times. The hallways are spacious and physical distancing should be observed at all times.
The Terrace Art Gallery & The Northwest Regional Airport have teamed up to bring some amazing art from throughout the region to YXT!

Where?
There’s art all around! You can see work in the display case in the arrivals area, as well as two display cases near the doors out to the central entrance. Check out the wall on your way from departures to the security check for rotating wall exhibitions.

Want to take the art home with you?
Good news, artworks at the airport are for sale! Please contact or visit the Terrace Art Gallery for prices and availability.

Arrivals Hall: Gayton Nabess and Carly Nabess

Gayton Nabess is a Cree-Métis who has resided in Terrace, BC located on Tsimshian territory, since 1984. He creates sculptures that seek to capture images and moments that often escape cameras or others' notice. He uses wood, metal, and stone in his sculptures and often uses natural cues in the materials to guide their development. Gayton finds inspiration in natural images, international art, and the work of his peers. Gayton is a member of the Freda Deising School of North Coast Art at Coast Mountain College at Terrace, BC. Under the guidance of Tsimshian masters, Dempsey Bob, Stan Bevan, and Ken McNeil, he has developed and practiced skills in drawing, painting, design, tool building, and sculpture. The school`s wealth of talent and commitment has encouraged him to work at his own unique style and technique.

Carly Nabess is a Métis multimedia artist living in Terrace, BC located on Tsimshian territory. Her work celebrates and honours the plant medicines and the land. Her work integrates floral beadwork and watercolour landscape painting -honouring her connection to the land through the lends of her Métis identity. Coming from a legacy of Métis artists, her work challenges mainstream stereotypes of what it means to be a Métis artist by approaching historical Métis styles through a unique and contemporary perspective. She works closely with mentors in order to create meaningful and respectful relationships with the land, her culture, and her community, and this is reflected in the beauty of her art.

Father and daughter, Gayton Nabess and Carly Nabess, make the following statement regarding their installation:

"We hope our art will bring good medicine. We spoke about what it means to have our artworks displayed in the airport during this pandemic. A small rural airport in an industrial town surrounded by large projects that bring many people from many places. An airport like this during the COVID pandemic can be a symbol of sickness and fear who have to travel. We hope our work is medicine to travelers, especially those traveling for essential medical appointments. To those risking their health in order to save their
lives, we hope our work brings you a few moments of comfort and peace and joy on your journey."
