True North Coast Salish Blanket: Sunset Reflection Collection
On now until April 2020

This collection is a true collaboration between Amanda Hugon and Marie Christine Claveau. Inspired by an old, woven Coast Salish blanket that Amanda saw at the B.C. Royal Museum the entire collection is a beautiful sunset within the woven shapes of the blanket. The top halves of the panels represent the North and the bottom halves, the reflection, represent the South. Both artists currently reside and work in Northern B.C. but have lived in the southern half of the province as well.

The swans were a mutual concept for they are lovely, large birds that live throughout the province. This family of birds is represented in both artistic styles of Amanda and Christine in order to showcase not only the population of mixed heritage people throughout B.C. but to also highlight the beauty of reconciliation. The spindle whorls represent life and its surroundings. It is said that when the whorls spin the weaver is put into a trance to create the design of the blanket. The artists' version of the spindle whorls spin with the revolution of the sun.

For Amanda and Christine this collection marks the beginning of more collaborative experiments to come.
